Larissa agricultural authorities issue cotton crop protection guidelines
The Directorate of Agricultural Economy of Larissa, in collaboration with the Regional Center for Plant Protection, Quality and Phytosanitary Control of Volos, has issued recommendations for cotton producers in the Larissa regional unit to ensure effective plant protection.
To manage pest populations for the upcoming spring season, authorities advise farmers to perform specific cultivation practices immediately following the harvest. The goal is to reduce the number of overwintering insects, specifically the green and pink bollworms.
For the green bollworm, officials recommend stem cutting followed by soil plowing to a depth of 20-25 centimeters. This process is intended to destroy nymphs, expose them to adverse environmental conditions, or bury them at depths that prevent adults from emerging from the soil.
