Larissa agricultural producers seek urgent support amid rising costs

Agricultural and livestock producers in the Larissa region of Greece are facing significant economic challenges, prompting calls for government intervention.

New Democracy MP Christos Kellas visited Akri in Elassona to discuss regional development and the sustainability of rural communities. He highlighted government measures intended to support small settlements, such as the abolition of ENFIA tax for primary residences in specific small towns starting in 2027, the removal of occupation fees for self-employed professionals, and the return of the excise duty to agricultural diesel.

Concurrently, SYRIZA MP Giannis Karipidis submitted a formal report to the Ministries of National Economy and Finance and Agricultural Development on behalf of the Panlarisaikos Agricultural and Livestock Association. The association warns that the primary sector is nearing collapse due to the high costs of fuel, fertilizers, supplies, and labor. They are requesting immediate measures, including the direct return of diesel prices to the pump starting October 1, 2026, and an extension for fertilizer price relief through November 2026, to prevent the abandonment of productive lands.
