Larissa: Armed robbery attempt at meat processing plant

An armed group of three to four individuals attempted to rob an ATM at a meat processing facility on the Larissa–Ampelonas road in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026. The perpetrators entered the premises through a side door and held two security employees hostage at gunpoint, reportedly locking them in a container.

A third security employee managed to alert the company, prompting a response vehicle to arrive at the scene. The armed suspects opened fire on the vehicle, and a subsequent police pursuit involved gunfire, though no injuries were reported. The suspects fled in a Peugeot 3008, which was later found burned in the Damasi area to destroy evidence.

During the investigation, authorities arrested an off-duty police officer who was working as a private security guard at the facility without the required professional license. Officials clarified that the arrest pertains to his unauthorized employment and not to involvement in the robbery attempt. Investigations continue to identify the four suspects.
