Larissa celebrates 145 years of liberation

The city of Larissa is holding a series of commemorative events titled ‘Eleutheria 2026’ to mark the 145th anniversary of its liberation and incorporation into the Greek state on August 31, 1881.

Organized by the Municipality of Larissa, the celebrations include a formal religious service at the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Savior, a commemorative speech, and the laying of wreaths at the local monument. The program features various cultural and community activities throughout the week, including a traditional dance festival at Freedom Square and a commemorative football match intended to connect different generations of the community.

Evangelia Liakouli, a Member of Parliament for Larissa and representative of PASOK–Movement for Change, participated in the ceremonies, emphasizing that the anniversary serves as a reminder of the struggle for democracy, justice, and national sovereignty.
