Larissa factory fire triggers 112 emergency alerts
A major fire broke out at the Karatzis A.E. factory, a facility producing packaging materials and plastic goods, located near the 5th kilometer of the Larissa-Athens National Road in the Kileler municipality.
Dense black smoke from the burning materials has covered the sky over Larissa and is visible from significant distances. In response to the drifting smoke, the 112 emergency system issued a warning to local residents, instructing them to remain indoors with all doors and windows tightly closed.
Emergency response efforts include 30 firefighters and 13 vehicles, including a specialized boom vehicle and local water tankers. Police have implemented traffic restrictions, closing one entrance and exit of the National Road and diverting traffic on the Old National Road. While the fire has caused significant damage to approximately one-quarter of the building, there are currently no reports of individuals trapped inside. The Larissa Arson Crimes Investigation Unit has been deployed to determine the cause of the incident.
