Health Minister Georgiadis inaugurates upgraded medical facilities in Thessaly

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis conducted a two-day tour of the Thessaly region to inaugurate several upgraded healthcare facilities. In Volos, the minister inaugurated a renovated Emergency Department at Achillopouleio Hospital, a project covering approximately 1,000 square meters with 16 beds and an investment exceeding 2 million euros. Georgiadis noted that Volos achieved a 100% success rate in its recent physician recruitment call.

In Larissa, the tour included the inauguration of a renovated Pediatric Clinic and a Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at the University Hospital, projects supported by the Thessaly Region. Additionally, the minister announced the upcoming procurement of a new linear accelerator for radiotherapy within one year. The tour also featured the inauguration of renovated Emergency Departments at the Larissa General Hospital and a modernized Health Center in Tyrnavos.

In Trikala, the minister inaugurated a new Emergency Department at the General Hospital, which was renovated through private donations and includes new spaces for Fast Track and Shock Rooms. The visit also included the inauguration of a second state-of-the-art angiograph.

During the visits, Georgiadis faced protests from trade unionists in Volos regarding staffing shortages. The minister responded by highlighting increases in hospital budgets and staff numbers, noting that the budget for Achillopouleio rose from 16.83 million euros in 2019 to 31.12 million euros currently.
