Larissa green space tender faces opposition over 7.5 million euro cost

The political group Symparataxi Larisaon has voted against the terms of a new tender for the maintenance of green spaces in Larissa. The contract, which includes an option for a third year, is valued at approximately 7.5 million euros from municipal funds.

Opposition members raised concerns regarding the significant increase in costs. In 2021, annual spending for green space maintenance was approximately 1.16 million euros, whereas by 2026, the projected annual cost reaches 2.43 million euros. This represents more than a doubling of the annual cost within five years.

Critics also pointed to the current state of the city's greenery. Technical specifications for the new tender describe existing areas as having “downgraded green spaces,” “destroyed lawns,” and flowerbeds that are “tending to expire,” despite the municipality having already spent over 3.7 million euros on current contracts over the last two years.
