Larissa marks 145 years since liberation from Ottoman rule

Larissa marks the 145th anniversary of its liberation and incorporation into the Greek state. On August 31, 1881, the Greek army entered the city, ending a long period of Ottoman rule.

Larissa Mayor Thanasis Mamakos issued a message reflecting on the city's history, noting that it has endured wars, disasters, earthquakes, and floods, yet has consistently rebuilt itself. He emphasized the responsibility of the current generation to build a more resilient, green, modern, and outward-looking city that respects its history while looking toward the future.
