Larissa Medical Society Issues Child Water‑Safety Guidelines
The Medical Society of Larissa, together with the Association of Pediatricians of Larissa, released updated recommendations aimed at parents of infants and young children for safe recreation in the sea and swimming pools during the summer season. The advice stresses continuous adult supervision, the use of appropriate flotation devices, and avoidance of swimming in rough water or areas with strong currents.
It also encourages early, systematic swimming lessons with qualified instructors, warns against the use of water wings, and advises against diving from rocks or other unknown depths because of the risk of head injury, paralysis or death. The guidelines are intended to reduce silent drowning incidents among small children, which often occur without a cry for help.
