Larissa: Mummified remains of 60-year-old woman found in basement

The mummified remains of a 60-year-old woman were discovered in a basement apartment in the Agiou Konstantinou neighborhood of Larissa, Greece. The discovery occurred on August 19 following the sale of the property on 28th October Street.

Forensic estimates suggest the woman had been dead for at least one year. The cause of death is attributed to pathological causes. Authorities noted that the body underwent mummification rather than typical decomposition, a rare phenomenon in local forensic records that prevented the detection of a foul odor, which likely delayed the discovery.

Based on an ID found near the body, the woman was originally from Thessaloniki and had previously lived in a European country. The Hellenic Police have collected DNA samples and sent them to the Directorate of Criminological Research for official identification. Investigations are ongoing to locate potential relatives.
