Larissa receives €1.35M for road works amid historic building dispute

The Region of Thessaly has announced a €1.35 million allocation for road safety improvements in Larissa. Under the decision of Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas, the Municipality of Larissa has been invited to submit a proposal for the maintenance of the Old National Road (P.E.O.) connecting Larissa and Thessaloniki. The project focuses on the critical section between the Sykouri and Koulourio intersections, aiming to enhance driver and pedestrian safety, improve connectivity between settlements, and prevent infrastructure damage.

Separately, the Municipality of Larissa has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the historic Alexander's House following the issuance of a demolition permit. The Municipal Council had previously voted unanimously to declare the building a preserved site. Local authorities clarified that the permit was issued electronically by a licensed engineer without direct involvement from the municipal building department. The municipality has requested information from the Ministry of Environment and Energy regarding the owner's application for re-examination and has instructed the building department to verify the legality of the permit to prevent any demolition.
