Larissa: Boy rescued from 2016 fire to serve as flag bearer
Stefanos, a teenager from Giannouli, Larissa, will serve as a flag bearer during the October 28th national parade. His selection marks a significant milestone ten years after a life-threatening apartment fire in 2016.
During the incident on November 23, 2016, a candle caused a fire in the family's home while they were facing severe financial difficulties and lacked electricity. Stefanos, then four years old, was trapped in his stroller as flames surrounded him. Firefighter Ilias Arvithas rescued the child from the burning building, sustaining minor burns himself in the process.
Following the rescue, Stefanos underwent intensive medical treatment at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital, including skin grafts and long-term rehabilitation. His mother, Dimitra, who supported him through years of surgeries and therapy, will accompany him during the parade. Stefanos is currently a student at the Special Primary School of Giannouli.
