Larissa teacher sentenced to nine years for sexual abuse of student

A 58-year-old theology teacher and school life counselor has been unanimously convicted by the Larissa Mixed Jury Court for the sexual abuse of a 16-year-old student and the possession of child pornography. The court imposed a total prison sentence of nine years.

The crimes occurred during the 2024-2025 school year within a school in the Larissa regional unit. The victim initially disclosed the abuse to the school psychologist, noting that the interactions took place both in classrooms during breaks and through electronic messaging.

During the trial, the defendant admitted to engaging in ‘sexting’ and possessing a video of the minor, which he claimed to have deleted immediately. However, he denied committing any physical sexual acts, suggesting the student fabricated the claims to escape her family environment. The court rejected these claims, citing evidence such as the psychologist's testimony, which noted the victim suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, and intense fear.

The court ruled that the defendant's appeal would not have suspensive effect, resulting in his return to the Grevenas Detention Center.
