European Day of Languages promotes linguistic diversity

The European Day of Languages, an initiative established by the Council of Europe in 2001, is celebrated annually on September 26. The event aims to promote linguistic diversity, encourage lifelong language learning, and foster intercultural understanding across the continent.

In Cava de’ Tirreni, the De Filippis Galdi Institute is hosting celebrations featuring debates and performances to highlight the role of languages in building an active European community. The school, recognized as a model for internationalization in Campania, offers curricula including English, French, German, Spanish, and Russian.

The Council of Europe provides various resources for the celebration, including educational materials, online games, and information in over 20 languages to support students, teachers, and cultural institutions in participating through activities such as language cafes or workshops.
