Larissa to host ‘Provincial Jokes’ theatrical performance

The theatrical production ‘Provincial Jokes’ by Alexander Vampilov will be performed at the Second Ancient Theatre of Larissa on Saturday, September 5, at 21:00. Presented by graduates of the Athens Conservatory Drama School in collaboration with the Larissa Ephorate of Antiquities, this marks the first time the production has been staged outside of Athens.

The performance features two short tragicomic plays: ‘Meeting with Metranpaz’ and ‘20 Minutes with an Angel’. The works explore the lives of ordinary people in a small provincial town, navigating humor, fear, and insecurity within the absurdities of the Soviet system. Alexander Vampilov (1937–1972) was a significant Russian playwright whose works often focused on the struggles and moral dilemmas of individuals living far from major urban centers.
