Larissa University Hospital cochlear implant center operations suspended
The Greek Parliament has debated the suspension of operations at the Cochlear Implant Center for adults and children at the University Hospital of Larissa. Following an inquiry by MP Alexandros Meikopoulos, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis stated that the center currently lacks the necessary adjustment equipment and suitable training spaces for patients.
Minister Georgiadis claimed that the requirements for safe and proper operation have not been met since the center's initial recognition. This statement has drawn criticism from Meikopoulos, who pointed out a contradiction: the Ministry and KESY officially recognized the center as meeting all requirements in December 2023, and a successful implantation was performed in 2024.
Further questions have been raised regarding the change of the center's scientific supervisor. The Minister revealed that a request was submitted in May 2026 to replace Professor Charalambos Skoulas with the current Director of the ENT Clinic.
