Larissa Vice Governor updates Vrysia springs dam project status

M. Galliou, the Vice Regional Governor of Larissa, has provided an update regarding the construction of a dam for the anastomosis of the Vrysia springs in Larissa. The project initially began in the summer of 2023 following study modifications to exclude private land.

However, construction progress was interrupted after the Daniel and Elias storms caused significant damage to the completed works. Operations were unable to continue until the summer of 2024, when work was restarted. Due to the karst nature of the springs and the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall, construction is seasonally restricted to the period between late July and autumn.

To ensure continued funding, the Thessaly Region has successfully transferred the project's financing from the 2014-2022 Rural Development Program to the new 2023-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) programming period under the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
