Larnaca authorities investigate illegal utilities and chaos at apartment complex

Authorities in Larnaca are investigating serious allegations of illegal activity within an apartment complex. The management committee of the complex has reported multiple violations, including the illegal connection of electricity and water, the use of fraudulent rental agreements to occupy units without owner consent, and the unauthorized exploitation of apartments for income.

Larnaca Police spokesperson Spyros Chrysostomou confirmed that investigations are underway regarding tampering with water and electricity meters. Following a joint inspection by the police, the Larnaca District Administration Organization, the Municipality of Larnaca, and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, officials described the conditions at the site as “chaos,” noting severe hygiene issues and dangerous building conditions.

The management committee also reported that members have faced threats and that illegal utility connections are frequently re-established even after being disconnected by authorities. The Larnaca District Administration Organization is currently working to regulate the hazardous building conditions, while the management committee has engaged a private engineer to oversee necessary safety works.
