Larnaca Marina development faces legal hurdles
The development of the Larnaca Marina and port is facing potential delays following an opinion from the Legal Service of the Republic. The Legal Service has recommended that the state conduct an open tender for the marina's development, a move that may alter previous planning designs.
During a meeting of the Transport Committee, Minister of Transport Evi Thomou-Michail stated that while the port's transfer can proceed immediately, a legal obstacle exists regarding the transfer of spaces for the marina. The government is currently seeking clarifications from the Legal Service and is exploring alternative methods to advance the project.
Despite these concerns, the Port Authority's Chairman, Zenonas Apostolou, maintained that the project roadmap remains within scheduled timelines. Meanwhile, the Larnaca Municipality has requested a suspension of the yacht club component, and local tourism representatives have called for a formal agreement to ensure the project continues while the legal framework is clarified.
