Larry Brock to resign as MP, triggering Ontario byelection

Conservative MP Larry Brock, representing the Brantford‑Brant South‑Six Nations riding in southwestern Ontario, announced on social media that he will resign his seat on 18 September 2026. He said he is returning to the Crown attorney’s office in Brantford to resume his career as a prosecutor, emphasizing his commitment to community safety and “tough on crime” policies.

Brock, first elected in 2021 and formerly the party’s justice critic, was removed from that role by Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre in June. His departure marks the seventh resignation from Poilievre’s caucus since the 2025 federal election, with four of those MPs having crossed the floor to the Liberals. The vacancy will require a federal byelection in the riding.

In a statement, Poilievre thanked Brock for his work on criminal‑justice issues, including opposition to Liberal bail‑reform measures.
