Larry the Cat returns to Downing Street after emergency surgery

Larry the Cat, the 19-year-old resident symbol of Downing Street, has returned to his duties following emergency surgery to remove a cyst. Upon his return to Number 10, the cat appeared with a visible scar and a shaved patch of fur. He was also involved in a minor confrontation with a guide dog, though no injuries were reported.

Adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in 2011, Larry has served through the terms of seven prime ministers. He is currently on track to break the record for longevity in the role, surpassed only by Peter III, who resided at Downing Street from 1947 to 1964.

While a beloved figure, Larry has faced criticism from some officials; Culture Minister Ian Murray once described him as 'the most unpleasant animal you will ever meet.' Additionally, Akshata Murty previously noted that Larry had sharp conflicts with the Sunak family's Labrador, Nova.
