Lars Leijonborg returns to the Swedish Riksdag

Former Liberal Party leader Lars Leijonborg, 76, is returning to the Swedish Riksdag after the final election results were confirmed. Leijonborg secured the party’s sole mandate in Malmö through the national name ballot rather than the local Skåne list.

While Simon Chrisander topped the local Skåne list, a higher number of voters selected the national ballot, where Leijonborg was ranked third behind Simona Mohamsson and Romina Pourmokhtari. Because Mohamsson and Pourmokhtari were elected in Stockholm, the seat fell to Leijonborg. Leijonborg expressed shock at the outcome, stating he had primarily run to support the party during the campaign and did not expect to secure a seat himself.
