Lars Stoy promotes Germany's early‑child pension scheme starting 2027

ING Germany CEO Lars Stoy, also a board member of the German Banks Association, says the proposed "Frühstartrente" should not be the final step in expanding private retirement financing. He calls for a national financial‑education strategy so that pupils are taught basic finance after school.

The plan would give every child €10 per month from age six to eighteen, deposited in an individual capital‑based pension account. The first cohort – children born in 2020 – would receive retroactive support from 1 January 2026, with the scheme launching in 2027. Parents, sponsors and grandparents may add up to €6 840 per year per child, and the accumulated capital could be withdrawn only after the child reaches age 65. Regional banks see the product as a way to attract customers, but they are waiting for precise political guidelines before launching offers.
