Lars Ulrich sells San Francisco mansions for $68 million

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has completed a series of significant real estate transactions in the San Francisco Bay Area, totaling approximately $84 million.

Ulrich sold two adjoining mansions in the exclusive Presidio Heights neighborhood for a combined $68 million. If treated as a single transaction, this represents the second-largest private home sale in San Francisco's history, following a $71 million sale by Laurene Powell Jobs in 2024. The properties, which include a 16,000-square-foot Italian palazzo-inspired mansion and a 6,000-square-foot residence, were originally acquired by Ulrich from Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff roughly a decade ago for a total of $36 million.

In addition to the San Francisco sales, Ulrich sold 161 acres of land in Marin County for $16 million. The Marin property was purchased by the Marin Open Space Trust, which intends to convert the land into public space.
