Lars Yngve launches Osternisk‑Swedish dialect dictionary

Swedish cultural figure Lars Yngve has published an Osternisk‑Swedish dialect dictionary aimed at preserving the rapidly fading local speech of the Österlen region. Drawing on recordings and notes from his grandparents in Hagestad, Yngve collected words and expressions as they were spoken, pairing them with anecdotes and humor. The self‑produced volume, presented in a weathered notebook style, seeks to document a linguistic heritage that Yngve believes is at risk of being homogenised across Sweden. Yngve, who previously ran the local cultural magazine Nya Upplagan with his wife Maria, hopes the work will foster renewed interest in regional dialects and provide a resource for scholars and residents alike.
