Las Cruces police investigate murder-suicide involving five children
The Las Cruces Police Department is investigating a murder-suicide that occurred on Saturday morning at a residence on the 4100 block of Calle Libertad. Authorities report that 46-year-old Shane Perez fatally shot his longtime partner, 30-year-old Angelica Aguirre, before turning the gun on himself.
Five children, ranging in age from 3 to 14 years old, were inside the home at the time of the shootings. None of the children were physically harmed during the incident. Following the tragedy, the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department placed the children in the care of a family member.
Investigators have not yet released a potential motive or confirmed if there was a history of domestic violence between the couple. The incident has drawn attention due to the contrast between the violence and Aguirre’s social media presence, which frequently featured sentimental posts about her family and relationship.
