Las Dunas Restaurant in Baní damaged by fire

A fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday at Las Dunas Restaurant in Baní, Dominican Republic. The blaze, which began after 2:00 a.m., consumed a significant portion of the establishment's traditional thatch roof, as well as the kitchen, cafeteria, merchandise, and some furniture.

The restaurant's owner and administrator, Wilfredo Peña, has alleged that the fire was intentionally set by criminal actors. He noted that the business had only been operating in its new location on 16 de Agosto Street for two weeks, following a recent relocation. Peña also reported that unknown individuals had previously broken into the premises to steal goods within the first eight days of the move.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 2:30 a.m. and managed to contain the flames to prevent further spread. While the exact economic losses have not yet been quantified, the damage to the infrastructure is substantial. Investigators from the Central Directorate of Investigation (Dicrim) and fire technicians are conducting assessments to determine the official cause of the fire and identify those responsible.
