Las Médulas screens documentary on 2025 wildfire on anniversary

On 10 August 2025, the Las Médulas area will host an outdoor event to mark the first anniversary of the massive forest fire that devastated the UNESCO World Heritage site in August 2025. The programme consists of a free public screening at 22:00 of the 86‑minute documentary *Ladrones de Fuego*, directed and written by Francisco José Vaquero Robustillo. The film examines the causes of large‑scale wildfires in Spain through testimonies from farmers, firefighters, biologists and others, and argues that institutional abandonment of rural land management has amplified the risk.

The screening is organised by the cultural group Metáfora Visual together with the local residents’ association Asociación de Vecinos Las Médulas. It was originally planned for the Casa del Parque in Carucedo, but the Junta de Castilla y León denied use of the venue, stating that only activities run by the regional administration could be held there. Consequently, the event will take place in the open air at the Plaza de Las Médulas, with organisers saying the change will not affect attendance.
