Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Council disputes family eviction

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has expressed disagreement with a judicial decision to evict a mother and her two children, aged 4 and 16, from their home in the Pedro Hidalgo neighborhood.

Social services issued a report on the morning of the eviction, concluding that the family is in a state of “special social, economic, and residential vulnerability.” The municipal government stated it rejects decisions that “leave a vulnerable family of our city on the street,” while maintaining respect for the judiciary.

The report, signed by a social worker, noted the family faces an “imminent risk of losing housing” and lacks a known alternative for immediate accommodation. It urged the court to consider the situation with “maximum urgency, attending to the best interests of the minors.” The eviction took place amid protests from nearly one hundred neighbors and police intervention.
