Las Palmas de Gran Canaria expands organic waste collection
The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council has begun installing a fifth brown container for selective organic waste collection in the Tafira Baja neighborhood, located in the Vegueta-Cono Sur-Tafira district.
Three new collection points have been established at Carretera al Fondillo, 5; Calle Bruno Naranjo Díaz, 1; and Calle Tucumán, 21. These containers are key-operated, and residents can request keys from a mobile office located at Calle Tucumán, 19, which will remain on-site until October 23.
The service is designed for organic materials including food scraps, vegetable remains, meat, fish, dairy, eggshells, coffee grounds, and certain natural fibers like sawdust or wood shavings. Since the program's launch in December 2023, over 1.1 million kilograms of organic waste have been collected and transported to the Ecoparque managed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria to be converted into agricultural compost.
