Las Palmas de Gran Canaria launches major urban and coastal infrastructure projects

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council has launched several major urban and coastal infrastructure projects to improve city facilities and maritime protection.

Maintenance is underway at the La Laja natural pools, involving dredging and cleaning of the seabed. The project, costing approximately 130,177 euros, aims to restore the facilities to optimal conditions within four weeks. The work is being carried out in phases, starting with the northern and southern pools, with the central pool to follow.

To protect the historic Las Canteras promenade, the city has put out a tender for over 1 million euros to repair and consolidate 286 linear meters of sea walls and buttresses. This preventive measure aims to address surface deterioration and cracks caused by marine erosion before structural risks emerge.

Additionally, a 3.77 million euro project has been approved for the reform of the Carretera del Norte. The works, expected to last 12 months, include the installation of three new roundabouts to improve traffic flow, the creation of pedestrian crossings, and the installation of essential drainage and water supply networks.
