Las Palmas de Gran Canaria renovates Las Olas park and unveils tourism master plan
The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city administration is carrying out a community‑driven renovation of Parque de Las Olas in the Barrio Atlántico. Coordinated by the Requetemuá Academy of Fine Arts, the redesign features a sea‑inspired theme with waves and surfer figures. Councilor Betsaida González highlighted the project as a way to strengthen neighbourhood identity through citizen participation, inviting residents to help with painting work on weekdays until the project’s scheduled completion on 31 July.
In parallel, the city council presented a new Tourism Marketing Plan for 2026‑2030. The strategy aims to embed tourism within the city’s economic, social and urban policies, positioning residents at the centre of decision‑making. Ten programmes—including LPA Deliciosa for gastronomy, LPA Barrios to integrate districts, and LPA MICE to attract conferences—seek to distribute tourism benefits across all neighbourhoods. The plan was unveiled at the Hotel Santa Catalina by tourism councillor Pedro Quevedo, continuing the city’s “Ciudad de Mar y Culturas” branding while adding new pillars of cooperation, consciousness and value generation.
