Mediterranean cruise industry highlights major port and fleet updates at Seatrade Cruise Med

The Seatrade Cruise Med industry event in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has become a central hub for Mediterranean maritime developments. Major port authorities and cruise lines are utilizing the forum to announce infrastructure upgrades and new service models.

In Spain, the Port of Almería is promoting a major renovation, including a new exclusive cruise terminal and over 40 million euros in planned public works for 2027-2028. Similarly, the Port of Málaga highlighted its 'Hidden Disabilities Sunflower' program to improve accessibility, while PortCastelló is positioning itself as a premium 'boutique port' targeting high-net-worth travelers.

In Italy, the Western Sicilian Sea Port Authority introduced a project for Lampedusa and Pantelleria, aiming to attract luxury and small-ship segments through a concept focused on discovery and environmental respect. The Italian port system is also presenting a unified front via the 'CruiseItaly' pavilion to showcase diverse regional destinations.

Regarding fleet logistics, MSC Cruises announced that the MSC Euribia will be deployed to the Canary Islands and Madeira for the 2027-2028 winter season, significantly increasing passenger capacity compared to previous vessels. Meanwhile, MedCruise held its 69th General Assembly to approve constitutional amendments aimed at modernizing governance and sustainability efforts.
