Mexican authorities and search collectives meet in Sonora
Federal and state authorities, including Mexico’s Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Attorney General Ernestina Godoy, and Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo, held a regional dialogue in Hermosillo to address the crisis of missing persons.
The meeting included search collectives from Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Durango, Baja California, and Baja California Sur. Participants discussed the National Search Strategy and emphasized the need for specialized investigations and the use of the National Forensic Data Bank for genetic profiling.
Search collectives raised several demands, including the creation of a specialized Prosecutor’s Office, increased budgets for search commissions, and the establishment of formal, time-bound agreements to ensure government compliance. They also highlighted discrepancies in official records, noting that while state authorities in Sonora recorded 204 clandestine graves in 2025, the federal Attorney General’s Office reported zero findings at the central level.
