Infrastructure failures trigger water and sewage crises in Mexico and Peru

Various regions in Mexico and Peru are facing significant infrastructure failures related to water and sanitation services.

In Boca del Río, Mexico, a sinkhole swallowed a garbage truck after a sewage leak went unaddressed for 15 days, leaving residents dealing with wastewater inside their homes. Similarly, in Tlalnepantla, residents reported water supply disruptions caused by pipe ruptures linked to local construction projects. In Torreón, neighbors in the Las Trojes district reported receiving turbid, foul-smelling water due to improper valve manipulation by a water treatment plant operator.

In Peru, residents of the La Molina settlement in Piura have staged road blockades to protest a sewage collapse. Protesters claim that a malfunctioning pumping station has caused wastewater to overflow, forcing some residents to use makeshift pits for sanitation.

Other local issues include reports of deteriorating road conditions in Tonalá and concerns regarding the greenish appearance of the Santa Lucía canal in Monterrey, which locals claim negatively impacts the area's tourism.
