Las Tunas authorities deploy invisible gel to prevent solar panel theft
Authorities in Jobabo, Las Tunas, have implemented an invisible chemical marking technique to combat the frequent theft of solar panels and components from water pumping systems. The measure was first deployed at a photovoltaic facility in the Birama settlement.
The security gel is invisible to the naked eye but becomes detectable under ultraviolet light. It is designed to adhere to the skin of anyone who comes into contact with the protected surfaces, allowing investigators to identify individuals who have handled the equipment during theft inquiries.
This marking method is also being applied to photovoltaic systems at state institutions, critical energy generation infrastructure, and transformer banks. While the measure has raised questions regarding its effectiveness against thieves wearing gloves, officials maintain it serves as a tool for identification.
