Las Tunas entrepreneur fined after leaving shop to collect grandfather's medicine

Boris Luis, a confectionery shop owner in the Jesús Menéndez municipality of Las Tunas, has publicly denounced a fine issued by inspectors after he briefly left his business to collect medication for his disabled grandfather.

Luis reported that he left the shop for approximately 20 minutes to pick up medicine at the municipal terminal, leaving the establishment in the care of his mother and another relative. During this time, inspectors arrived and found individuals present who were not legally registered as business operators. Luis stated that his mother attempted to explain the situation and offered to show the inspectors his ailing grandfather, but the officials refused to wait for his return.

The entrepreneur claimed that the inspectors increased the fine amount during the visit and warned of further increases. He criticized the severity of the action, suggesting that inspectors are targeting small businesses while larger illegalities in the municipality go unchecked. Luis has announced his intention to file a formal complaint regarding the incident, which follows a period of intense inspections of private businesses in the Las Tunas province.
