Las Tunas hospital robbery leads to death of guard and three arrests
Three young men, aged between 21 and 25, have been arrested in connection with a robbery at the Dr. Ernesto Guevara Provincial Hospital in Las Tunas, Cuba. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 24 in the hospital's bicycle parking area.
The robbery resulted in the death of 64-year-old security guard Rafael Jiner Guerra, a veteran employee of over three decades. Another worker from the gas department was injured during the incident but is reported to be out of danger. Stolen items included a motorized bicycle, a regular bicycle, and a mobile phone.
While authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of death, initial reports noted a lack of visible physical violence on the victims. Speculation has emerged regarding whether a sedative was placed in the workers' coffee, though toxicological and forensic results remain pending. The suspects are currently in custody awaiting judicial proceedings.
