Las Tunas unveils solar charging station for vehicles and devices

The city of Las Tunas has launched a public solar charging station at the Taxis Cuba headquarters to address ongoing energy constraints. Developed in collaboration with the private microenterprise TECSoluciones S. U. R. L., the facility features ten charging points designed for mobile phones, portable power stations, electric bikes, scooters, and mopeds.

The technical setup includes nine 620-watt bifacial solar panels, providing a peak power of 5.58 kilowatts. The system is supported by a 15-kilowatt-hour storage bank and a 10-kilowatt inverter-controller. The total investment for the project is 8.5 million pesos, with an expected recovery period of five years.

During periods of peak photovoltaic generation, the station will offer complimentary charging for small electronic devices to local residents. The launch also coincided with the reopening of an on-site cybercafé, which provides internet access, collaborative workspaces, and additional indoor charging points.
