Las Vegas crossing guard shields family from speeding car

A Las Vegas crossing guard, Richard Jones, is being hailed as a hero after preventing a potentially catastrophic accident in a school zone. Dashcam footage captured the moment Jones stepped directly into the path of a speeding vehicle to shield a mother and her two children.

The incident occurred on August 26 near Pinecrest Academy St. Rose. Kae’la Leon Guerrero was crossing the street with her 5-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son when a car, reportedly traveling approximately 35 mph in a 15 mph zone, sped toward them. Jones, an employee of All City Management Services, reacted instantly, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes less than 10 feet from the family.

The driver fled the scene following the near-miss. While the children were left shaken by the event, Guerrero expressed deep gratitude, stating that “something bad would have definitely happened” if Jones had not intervened. In recognition of his actions, the family presented Jones with a care package containing restaurant gift certificates and a handwritten thank-you note.
