Las Vegas murder-suicide coroner reports reveal toxicology details

Newly released coroner's reports have provided details regarding a murder-suicide involving 34-year-old Tawnia McGeehan and her 11-year-old daughter, Addilyn Smith, at a Las Vegas hotel in February.

According to the Clark County Coroner, the pair was found dead in a room at the Rio Hotel & Casino after a welfare check was requested by Smith's father. Investigators determined that McGeehan shot her daughter before killing herself. A note left by McGeehan warned first responders to ‘Call 911 before walking in 2 dead bodies one is an 11-year-old.’

Toxicology results revealed that both individuals had ingested a cocktail of substances prior to the shooting. Smith's system contained quetiapine, gabapentin, lorazepam, and diphenhydramine. McGeehan's toxicology report included those same substances, along with eszopiclone, citalopram, desmethyl loperamide, and cannabinoids. While these drugs were present, gunshot wounds were listed as the official cause of death for both.
