Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza graduates and shines in OTAs
Fernando Mendoza, the Las Vegas Raiders’ No. 1 overall pick and 2025 Heisman Trophy winner, completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley, walking at the Haas School of Business commencement in May 2026. After three seasons at Cal and a national championship run with Indiana, Mendoza entered the NFL with high expectations.
During organized team activities, Raiders coach Klint Kubiak praised Mendoza’s work ethic, noting that the rookie has been "as advertised," highly coachable and eager to learn. Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, also on the depth chart, has been described as a vocal leader who is helping Mendoza adjust to the professional level. The positive impressions from both players and teammates suggest a promising start to Mendoza’s NFL career as he competes for the starting quarterback role.
The graduation ceremony and OTA performances highlight Mendoza’s swift transition from college success to the professional stage, underscoring the Raiders’ investment in their new quarterback.
