Las Vegas Raiders evaluate Kirk Cousins and rookie Fernando Mendoza

The Las Vegas Raiders face a quarterback decision heading into the regular season, weighing the experience of veteran Kirk Cousins against the potential of rookie No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza.

ESPN analyst Troy Aikman has expressed high praise for Mendoza following his preseason performances. Despite an inconsistent outing against the Houston Texans, Aikman stated that the rookie has shown he is “capable of being a really great player in this league” and noted he is “really impressed with him.”

The Raiders are currently deciding whether to start Cousins to provide stability and protection for the offensive line, or to begin developing Mendoza. Discussions have also emerged regarding the possibility of a trade; some analysts suggest the Cleveland Browns could potentially make an offer for Cousins to bolster their roster, though the Raiders are unlikely to initiate such a move unless a compelling offer is made.
