Las Vegas rescuers save unequipped solo climber on Lone Mountain

Las Vegas emergency responders successfully rescued an unidentified solo climber who became stranded on the southern face of Lone Mountain on Monday evening. The climber, who reportedly had some indoor climbing experience but lacked any ropes, harnesses, or safety equipment, was found clinging to the 560-foot peak during extreme heat reaching 106 degrees.

Footage released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shows an officer rappelling down the rock face to reach the frightened individual. The rescuer secured the climber to his own gear, allowing a helicopter to perform a “double-up Lezard hoist” to extract both men simultaneously.

Authorities issued a warning following the incident, noting that the individual was unprepared for the technical demands of outdoor mountain climbing. Police emphasized that outdoor climbing requires specific skills, preparation, and risk assessment that differ significantly from controlled indoor environments.
