LaSalle College obtains creditor protection after $30 million fine

LaSalle College has obtained creditor protection following a $30 million fine imposed by the Quebec government. The penalty was issued because the institution exceeded limits on the number of students enrolled in English-language programs, a restriction established by a 2022 provincial language law.

In addition to the fine, the government has withheld subsidies for the upcoming academic year. The college is currently requesting that these subsidies be reinstated. Due to the lack of funding, classes that were scheduled to begin this week have been placed on hold.

Director Claude Marchand stated that the institution required a transition period to comply with the new enrollment limits.
