LASCOPA intensifies efforts to combat counterfeit goods in Lagos

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has launched intensified consumer education and enforcement campaigns to protect residents from counterfeit, expired, adulterated, and substandard products. General Manager Afolabi Solebo stated that while monitoring has led to a reduction in these practices, the agency will continue to identify and seal business premises that violate consumer protection laws.

In addition to physical retail monitoring, LASCOPA is urging consumers to report online vendors who deliver items that do not match their descriptions or promised quality. The agency emphasized that consumers should not remain silent when faced with unfair business practices or discrepancies between displayed prices and checkout amounts.

Addressing common retail issues, Solebo clarified that “No Refund, No Return” policies do not override a consumer’s legal right to redress for defective or misrepresented goods. Residents are encouraged to use the agency’s toll-free helpline or email to lodge formal complaints.
