Laser announces first Ultra HD Blu-ray player

Australian consumer electronics brand Laser has announced the launch of its first Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the Laser Blu-BD4K-384. Scheduled for release in Australia at the end of November, the device is positioned as an affordable entry-level option in a market where several major brands have recently exited.

The player supports UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and CD formats. Notably, it features region-free playback for DVDs and standard Blu-rays, while UHD Blu-ray is inherently region-free. For video, it supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, though it lacks HDR10+ support.

Technical compromises include the absence of Wi-Fi, requiring an Ethernet connection for networking, and the inclusion of only a single HDMI port. Analog audio is limited to stereo output. The device is expected to retail for approximately 500 Australian dollars.
