LASK Linz secures historic Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon

LASK Linz achieved a historic 3-2 victory against Sporting Lisbon in the third round of the Champions League league phase. Despite being considered underdogs following a recent heavy defeat, the Austrian champions managed to overturn an early deficit after a controversial penalty awarded to Sporting in the 5th minute.

Christoph Lang equalized for LASK in the 15th minute. The match was marked by a significant injury to LASK goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth, who suffered a concussion following a collision with Sporting striker Luis Suarez in the second half. Despite showing signs of disorientation, Jungwirth was removed from the pitch by the team doctor following intervention from captain Sascha Horvath. Substitute goalkeeper Tobias Schützenauer entered the match and helped secure the win with goals from Saša Kalajdžić and another counter-attack.

LASK is scheduled to host Slovan Bratislava at the Raiffeisen Arena on November 3.
