Lasse Nygaard Priester finishes fifth at Ironman 70.3 World Championship

German triathlete Lasse Nygaard Priester secured a fifth-place finish at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France. This performance marks a significant comeback following a heart attack diagnosed in 2024 during a race in China.

Priester remained a top contender throughout the event, which consisted of a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike ride, and a 21.1 km run. Although he dropped out of medal contention approximately 5.5 km before the finish line due to increased pace from competitors, he finished as the top German athlete.

New Zealander Hayden Wilde won the championship, followed by Norway's Kristian Blummenfelt in second place and Belgium's Jelle Geens in third. Other notable German finishers included Jonas Schomburg, who placed eighth.
