Lassonde Art Trail opens at Toronto waterfront
The Lassonde Art Trail has launched its first season at the Toronto waterfront, featuring interactive installations within the newly created Biidaasige Park on the artificial island of Ookwemin Minising.
A highlight of the trail is the work ‘Orange Functional’ by Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea, which reimagines a basketball hoop as a tree-like sculpture designed for physical interaction and social engagement.
The inaugural program includes 17 sculptures, 11 of which were developed specifically for the site. Participating artists include Tracey Emin, Ryan Gander, Kara Hamilton, Kent Monkman, and Hank Willis Thomas. Additional works are expected to be added through autumn 2026.
